Onus Suspensa (Suspended Burden) - Gravity Work
a study in continuous paths and collaborations with gravity
These hanging sculptures, which I refer to as “gravity work,” are part of an ongoing series I’ve been exploring for almost two decades.
Working with gravity means directly collaborating with nature—one of my favorite forms of partnership. The delicate appearance of these pieces comes from the very thin strings that suspend heavy objects, making them seem almost impossibly balanced.
The strings create beautiful, simple geometric patterns in the shadows they cast, adding to the visual appeal for me.
The floating items in these works Are nearly always Near where they are installed, further grounding them in this environment. These pieces have variable measurements and can be reinstalled in different locations.
